Project Details

Menstrual health challenges continue to create barriers to girls’ education, often leading to absenteeism, reduced classroom participation, poor academic performance, and in some cases, dropout. These challenges are driven by limited access to sanitary products, stigma, lack of privacy, and inadequate school sanitation facilities, all of which undermine dignity and bodily integrity during menstruation.

To address this, The Chizaram Children Literacy Foundation implemented an innovative and sustainable school-based access model through its Girl-Child Hygiene Drive. Instead of relying on one-time distributions, sanitary products are securely placed under the care of the school counsellor, creating a discreet and continuous access system that girls can rely on whenever needed. This approach transforms menstrual hygiene support from a temporary outreach activity into a sustained, embedded school resource.

By integrating access into the school structure, the model reduces stigma, normalizes menstrual health support, and ensures that no girl misses school due to lack of supplies. It strengthens consistent attendance, improves learning outcomes, and creates a safer, more inclusive environment where girls can manage their menstrual health with dignity, privacy, and confidence.
